1970s Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique Black Velvet Double Breasted Jacket
An elegant 1970s 'le smoking' jacket designed when Hubert de Givenchy was still at the helm of his eponymous fashion house and made for the brand’s Nouvelle Boutique label, a ready-to-wear line started in 1968. The jacket is tailored to a double-breasted cut which closes with six black plastic buttons. It has wide lapels and split cuffs which fasten with three coordinating buttons. Cut with an elongated silhouette with a sculpted, curved waist. There are two flap pockets at the waist, lined in black satin, and a faux welt pocket at the chest. The jacket is lined in smooth black satin.
The original label reads “Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique Paris” alongside “Made in France”. The jacket is in excellent vintage condition with no issues of any note. The fabric has no stretch. It is labelled a French size 38 but in our view this runs small and would better work for a size down, so a UK 8 or US 4 and perhaps smaller. Our model is a UK 8-10 US 4-6 and 5'9". This jacket fit her perfectly.
